The Ghana Police Service has arrested two persons for unlawful possession of a firearm and large quantities of ammunition following an intelligence-led operation.

According to the Nkwanta Municipal Police Command, the suspects were arrested on April 29, 2026, after officers intercepted a KIA Rhino truck with registration number GW 9927-13 at the Brewaniase Police barrier.

The vehicle was being driven by 27-year-old Richard Kpimbi, with 20-year-old Latif Adam serving as the driver’s mate.

A search conducted on the truck uncovered one Adler pump-action gun, 7,000 AAA cartridges, 3,000 BB cartridges and 1,124 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition. The items were concealed in plastic sacks and boxes under tarpaulins.

Police said the suspects are in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, while the retrieved items have been retained for further action.

The service has reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged the public to provide credible information to support efforts to combat crime.
