The Accra High Court has directed the Attorney General’s Office to file its response to a bail application filed by Salomey Awity Bafoh by 9am tomorrow.

The court gave the directive after the State requested a short adjournment to enable the substantive attorney handling the case to respond to the application.

State attorney, Karl Afedzie Forson Assistant told the court that he was not the substantive attorney in the matter and had only been informed that the office was served with the pending bail application on Friday, September 18.

He explained that Monday was a public holiday and the application had not yet been assigned to the substantive attorney, prompting the State to request more time to formally respond.

Counsel for the applicant, Nana Agyei Baffour, however, opposed the request, arguing that the matter concerned the liberty of an accused person and should not be delayed on procedural grounds.

The trial Judge, Justice Halima El- Alawa Abdul Basit subsequently adjourned hearing of the bail application to tomorrow September 24 at 1pm.

Salomey Awity Bafoh is a nurse and mother of 3 children who has been remanded to 2 weeks in police custody by the Adenta Circuit Court for her alleged connection with a Ghana Jollof's alleged publication of false news and inciting violence.
