Ahafo Ano South West Assembly elects new Presiding Member
The Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly in the Ashanti Region has elected Mr Paul Kwesi Amegboe, Assembly Member for the Mankranso-Betoum electoral area, as its new Presiding Member.
He secured 33 out of 42 votes, representing 78.6 per cent, exceeding the two-thirds majority required by law.
His opponent, Mr James Appiah, obtained 9 votes, representing 21.4 per cent.
Speaking to the media after the election, Mr Amegboe expressed appreciation to Assembly Members for the confidence placed in him.
He stressed the need for unity and calm among members to support the district’s development agenda.
He also referenced tensions linked to the 2024 general election, which he said resulted in the death of one person and affected the district, adding that such incidents should not be repeated.
Mr Amegboe said sustained unity would help restore peace and promote development in the district.
