French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that Ghana is the first beneficiary of France’s National Health Platform, a major health compact aimed at strengthening healthcare systems.

The announcement was made during bilateral talks with President John Dramani Mahama at the Élysée Palace in Paris, where both leaders discussed a wide range of issues including agriculture, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, regional security and Ghana’s economic recovery.

The meeting, part of President Mahama’s one-day official visit to France, began on a cordial note, with President Macron thanking him for co-chairing the One Health Summit in Lyon. He also described the Accra Reset Initiative as significant and acknowledged its prominence during the summit.

President Mahama welcomed the health partnership and expressed honour at being invited to co-chair the summit, noting its importance to the World Health Organisation. He also said the Accra Reset Initiative has produced tangible outcomes that can be built upon.

Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in agriculture to boost food security and year-round farming, as well as support for maternal health, artificial intelligence development, and the construction of the Accra-Kumasi expressway.

The two leaders further reviewed ongoing development support through the Agence Française de Développement.

President Mahama thanked France and China for their support in Ghana’s debt restructuring and pointed to strong signs of economic recovery.

Both presidents reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Ghana and France, built on shared values of democracy, peace and a rules-based international order, while also addressing regional and global security issues.
