Bawumia’s ‘visible’ economic lectures haunting him-Dr Awusi
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr Mary Awusi, has rejected claims by sections of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) that its flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was the most visible and successful Vice President.
Speaking on The Citizens Show hosted by Nana Otu Darko on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Dr Awusi described the assertion as inaccurate, arguing that Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has distinguished herself in office with what she termed unmatched achievements.
She noted that Prof Opoku-Agyemang has taken a proactive approach to governance through periodic unannounced visits to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), a move she said demonstrates hands-on leadership.
Dr Awusi further argued that the Vice President has broken new ground for women in leadership, describing her as a trailblazer who has opened doors for more women to aspire to high political office.
According to her, comparing Prof Opoku-Agyemang to Dr Bawumia is “unparalleled,” insisting that the current Vice President’s performance stands out.
Bawumia is being haunted by his own economic lectures, she stressed.
She also took a swipe at Dr Bawumia, stating that his previous economic lectures continue to attract scrutiny, especially in light of current economic management under President John Mahama’s administration.
Dr Awusi urged the former Vice President and his supporters to re-engage the public on economic issues, questioning whether Ghanaians would once again witness his widely publicised lectures.
