France backs Accra-Kumasi expressway
France is supporting Ghana in the construction of the Accra-Kumasi expressway, alongside broader cooperation in health, agriculture, and artificial intelligence.
This came up during bilateral talks between President John Dramani Mahama and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, as part of President Mahama’s one-day official visit.
The two leaders discussed efforts to boost food security through enhanced agricultural collaboration and year-round farming, as well as support for maternal health and AI development.
In a major announcement, President Macron confirmed that Ghana is the first beneficiary of France’s National Health Platform, a move welcomed by President Mahama.
The French leader also thanked President Mahama for co-chairing the One Health Summit in Lyon and described the Accra Reset Initiative as significant.
President Mahama, for his part, said he was honoured to co-chair the summit and noted that the initiative has produced concrete outcomes that can be built upon.
He also expressed gratitude to France and China for their support in Ghana’s debt restructuring and highlighted strong signs of economic recovery.
