The Mankessim Traditional Council has raised concerns over recent comments by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, regarding the Mankessim roundabout and ongoing road development discussions in the area.

Addressing a press conference led by Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI, the council questioned remarks made by the minister at the Winneba Junction road construction site, where he reportedly described the Mankessim roundabout as a “traditional heritage” site.

According to the council, such a classification could affect future development projects and the implementation of the government’s “Big Push” agenda in the area.

Osagyefo Amanfo Edu VI stated that neither he nor members of the traditional council had been consulted on any decision to classify the statues at the roundabout as cultural heritage.

He explained that the current appearance of the roundabout resulted from a beautification project undertaken by former Member of Parliament, Hon. Asabee, and not because it had been designated as a traditional heritage site.

The council also disclosed that it was aware of a video circulating on social media involving former President John Dramani Mahama, although details of its relevance to the matter were not fully explained during the briefing.

The Mankessim Traditional Council is calling on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority and the government to engage stakeholders and provide clarity on any proposed road diversion plans affecting the community.
