GA/R: Train travelling from Tema to Accra derails after crashing Into cows at Avenor
Passengers travelling on the Tema to Accra railway line experienced delays on Thursday morning after a train derailed near Avenor in the Greater Accra Region.
The incident happened when two stray cows entered the railway track shortly after the train left Avenor Station on its way to Odaw Station.
Reports indicate that the moving train hit the animals, causing parts of the train to come off the tracks.
Following the accident, passengers were asked to get down from the train while officials assessed the situation.
The two cows died at the scene.
Train services on the route were interrupted, leaving many commuters stranded and searching for alternative means of transport.
The incident has renewed public concern about stray animals moving close to railway lines, as well as ongoing encroachment along sections of the Accra–Tema rail corridor.
