The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly in a joint Security Taskforce has demolished the section of the Kasoa Old Market that was earmarked for redevelopment, marking the start of a major project to transform the area’s commercial infrastructure.

The exercise was carried out by a joint Security Taskforce including the Military, Police, Immigration and a taskforce from the Assembly following earlier eviction notices issued to traders operating within the affected area.

Authorities say the demolition targeted only the portion of the market that had been clearly marked for the redevelopment.

The action follows a previous deadline of March 27 given to traders to vacate the designated section.

Although some traders failed to comply, the Assembly granted a temporary extension to allow trading during the Easter period. With that period over, officials moved in to clear the marked structures.

Authorities have reiterated that alternative arrangements have been made for affected traders at the Kasoa Iron City Market, where they are expected to relocate and continue their businesses.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, on behalf of the MCE,a Member of the Awutu Senya East Assembly Engineers, Mr. Abdul Mohammed Rahman, emphasised that the demolition of the marked section is a key step in a broader plan to modernize market facilities and improve trading conditions within the municipality whilst noting that there were series of engagements with the traders, traditional leaders and all stakeholders before the exercise.
