Gold Board (GOLDBOD) Chief Executive Sammy Gyamfi has called for any investigation into Ghana’s gold business to cover the period from 2021 rather than focus solely on the operations of GOLDBOD.

His comments come amid calls by the Minority in Parliament for a probe into GOLDBOD following a reported $1.7 billion loss in 2025.

Speaking on Joy News’ News File, Mr Gyamfi said concerns about the traceability of gold should prompt a wider investigation into the domestic gold purchase programme.

“If that's the reason for a probe, I'm saying that then probe it from 2021 under the domestic gold purchase programme, and the records will show that people bought gold for oil, gold for reserves, and gold for forex, and they made efforts to implement traceability,” he explained.

Mr Gyamfi said GOLDBOD was itself working to strengthen traceability through a system that would allow gold to be tracked to its mine of origin.

He said the ongoing procurement process had been delayed by government bureaucracy and added that he expected it to be completed within two months.

He also argued that Parliament should establish the legal framework for dealing with gold that cannot be traced.

“If that is why you are calling for an audit, then let's broaden it and start from 2021.”
