The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that it awarded an office renovation contract through sole sourcing and procured laptops at inflated prices.

In a statement signed by its Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, the board described the claims as false and provided details of the procurement processes involved.

Office Renovation Contract

GoldBod explained that after its establishment in April 2025, the organisation undertook a recruitment exercise to strengthen the workforce of the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), bringing in more than 300 new employees and introducing additional directorates, departments and units.

According to the board, the expansion made it necessary to move from the former PMMC office at Diamond House to a larger facility. It subsequently rented the old head office building of the Bank of Ghana located at No.1 Thorpe Road in Accra to serve as its operational headquarters.

GoldBod noted that the building had previously been described by the central bank as structurally defective and not fit for purpose. As a result, renovation and refurbishment works were required to improve its structural condition and make it suitable for use.

The board said it applied to the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) on May 26, 2025, for approval to use the restricted tendering method to select a contractor for the project. Approval was granted on June 24, 2025.

According to the statement, three companies were shortlisted and participated in the tender process, with Correca Ghana Limited emerging as the successful bidder.

GoldBod said the claim that the contract was awarded through sole sourcing was therefore inaccurate. It added that the contractor completed the renovation works in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

The board further indicated that details of the contract were published on its official website on March 10, 2026, in line with Section 42(1)(c) of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), which requires the publication of contracts entered into by the institution.

Laptop Procurement

GoldBod also rejected claims that it purchased 15 laptops at inflated prices.

The board explained that the laptops were procured in November 2025 from GET4LESS Ghana Limited as part of efforts to provide equipment for newly appointed directors and deputy directors.

Due to the urgency of the procurement and the fact that the supplier was the only company with the required quantity of the specified model at the time, GoldBod said it sought and received approval from the Public Procurement Authority to use the single-source procurement method.

It added that commitment authorisation for the purchase was also obtained from the Ministry of Finance.

The board stated that the 15 laptops were purchased at a total cost of GH¢322,500, representing a unit price of GH¢21,500 inclusive of taxes.

According to GoldBod, the laptops are Lenovo ThinkPad T14S devices with Intel Core i7 processors, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD storage. It noted that checks on the supplier’s website show the open market price of the same laptop at about GH¢21,505, indicating that the procurement price was competitive.

The board also said details of the laptop procurement contract were published on its website on March 10, 2026, in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act.

Public Advisory

GoldBod stated that it remains committed to transparency and accountability and will continue to publish contracts it enters into.

It also urged the public to disregard what it described as attempts by “fake news merchants” to spread misinformation about the organisation.
