Ghana, Sierra Leone holds PJCC technical session to deepen bilateral cooperation

Senior officials from Ghana and Sierra Leone have convened in Accra for the Technical Session of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC), aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing mutual development goals.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts by both countries to enhance structured engagement across key sectors.

Delivering her remarks, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-Chairperson for the session, Khadija Iddrisu, highlighted the long-standing historical ties between the two nations, describing them as rooted in mutual respect and cooperation.

She noted that the session marks the activation of a mechanism established in 2013 to facilitate sustained dialogue and collaboration between Ghana and Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Iddrisu added that extensive preparatory work had been undertaken to ensure meaningful outcomes, urging participants to focus on priority areas including trade and investment, defence and security, agriculture, energy, and health.

On his part, Co-Chairperson and Director-General of Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alan C.E. Logan, described the meeting as a critical step toward translating the shared vision of both countries’ leadership into tangible benefits for their citizens.

He reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to deepening economic ties and expanding collaboration across strategic sectors, while also emphasising the value of leveraging Ghana’s experience in areas such as agriculture.

 

The session underscores the shared determination of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations and promote sustainable development through structured cooperation and practical engagement.
