Ghana participates in WAGP Ministers’ meeting to strengthen regional gas cooperation
Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to regional energy cooperation following its participation in the annual Committee of Ministers (CoM) meeting of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) held in Abuja.
The meeting, which took place on April 17, 2026, brought together representatives from member countries to deliberate on key regulatory and operational matters affecting the pipeline’s performance and sustainability.
Representing the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, the Deputy Minister, Richard Gyan-Mensah participated in high-level discussions aimed at enhancing gas supply and strengthening collaboration among member states.
The Committee of Ministers, the highest decision-making body of the WAGP, focused on improving coordination among the four participating countries—Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana—to ensure reliable gas deliveries across the region.
Key issues discussed included safeguarding the safety and integrity of the pipeline infrastructure, as well as measures to secure the long-term viability of WAGP operations amid growing energy demands.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by member states to deepen cooperation and reinforce the strategic role of the West African Gas Pipeline in promoting regional energy security and economic stability.
