Ghanaian man found dead at Bronx dumpsite after going missing for 2 weeks
A 24-year-old Ghanaian man identified as Joseph Owusu has been found dead at a dumpsite in the Bronx, New York, about two weeks after he went missing.
Owusu, a member and organist of the Ghana United Methodist Church in the Bronx, was reportedly discovered among refuse by a scrap collector.
News of his death emerged on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Members of Owusu’s church community remembered him as a dedicated musician who served the congregation through music.
The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death remain unclear.
Owusu’s death comes days after another Ghanaian, Javits Frimpong, was shot dead on October 29, while on his way to school in the Bronx.
The 15-year-old was reportedly chased before being shot near Crotona Park. He was taken to hospital but later died.
Police are reportedly on a hunt for three teenage suspects, with no arrests announced in the initial reports.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Javits’ family of government support and appropriate consular assistance.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also said the government will work with US authorities to pursue justice for the teenager.
