Ghanaian pilgrim dies while performing Tawaf in Makkah
The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has confirmed the death of a Ghanaian prospective pilgrim, Mr. Musah Sidi, who reportedly collapsed while performing Tawaf around the Kaaba at the Haram in Makkah.
Mr. Sidi, aged 53, is said to have passed away shortly after the incident during the sacred Islamic ritual.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 22, 2026, PAOG disclosed that the deceased’s family had been officially informed, while preparations were being made for his Janazah prayers after Jummah prayers and subsequent burial.
The office described the circumstances surrounding his death as spiritually significant, explaining that in Islamic belief, passing away while in a state of worship and Ihram during Tawaf is regarded as a noble and blessed ending.
PAOG’s Director of Communications, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones on behalf of the office.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” part of the statement read.
The development has generated sympathy among many Muslims and members of the public, as several people reflected on the religious significance of passing away while performing Tawaf in the holy city of Makkah.
