Ghanaians in Lyon receive President Mahama ahead of one health summit
President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Lyon to participate in the 2026 One Health Summit, where he is set to co-chair proceedings alongside Emmanuel Macron.
The President received a warm welcome from members of the Ghanaian community in the city, who gathered on Easter Monday to greet him.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit begins with his participation in the high-level summit, which focuses on strengthening health systems, food security, and coordinated global responses to emerging health threats.

As founder of the Accra Reset Initiative, President Mahama will co-chair the summit’s high-level segment on Tuesday, April 7, alongside President Macron. The gathering brings together global leaders, health ministers, and experts to discuss reforms to international health frameworks and adopt a political declaration aimed at enhancing global cooperation.
During the event, President Mahama is expected to deliver two keynote speeches. The first will be at a session on global health architecture, co-hosted by President Macron and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization. His second address will outline Ghana’s stance on global health security and highlight the country’s efforts to tackle emerging health challenges.

Following the summit, President Mahama will travel to Paris on Wednesday, April 8, for bilateral talks with President Macron at the Élysée Palace.
Discussions between the two leaders are expected to focus on deepening Ghana–France relations and expanding cooperation across sectors such as health, education, trade, investment, and regional security.
As part of his itinerary, the President is also scheduled to meet Gérard Larcher at the Senate before proceeding to the bilateral engagement at the Élysée Palace.
