NRSA Committee recommends crackdown on use of Toyota Voxy for commercial transport

A Technical Working Committee of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has recommended a strict clampdown on the use of Toyota Voxy vehicles for commercial transport operations across Ghana.

The recommendation follows concerns raised about the safety and suitability of the vehicles for long-distance passenger services.

According to the Committee, disclosures from manufacturers indicate that the Toyota Voxy is designed primarily for family and private use, not for heavy-duty or commercial transport purposes.

The Committee warned that using such vehicles for commercial operations could pose significant safety risks to passengers, particularly on long-distance routes where durability and structural capacity are critical.

The NRSA is therefore expected to work with relevant stakeholders to enforce regulations that restrict the inappropriate use of such vehicles within the commercial transport sector.

The move forms part of broader efforts to improve road safety standards and reduce the risk of accidents associated with unsuitable vehicles on Ghana’s roads.

Further directives are anticipated as authorities engage transport operators and industry players on the implementation of the recommendation.
