Solar lights in Kwahu

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has installed solar-powered streetlights across key areas in Kwahu as part of efforts to promote renewable energy and support infrastructure development.

The project, undertaken in line with the green transition agenda of President John Dramani Mahama and led by the sector Minister John Abdulai Jinapor nad his Deputy Richard Gyan-Mensah, covers more than 10 kilometres within Kwahu and surrounding communities.

The installation was completed ahead of the jus-ended Kwahu Business Summit and it has improved visibility and safety in the area during the event.

According to the Ministry, the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to reduce pressure on the national electricity grid by expanding the use of renewable energy solutions.

Street lighting alone is estimated to account for about 400 megawatts of national power demand.

By transitioning to solar-powered streetlights, the government aims to ease the load on the grid while advancing sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure across the country.

The Ministry emphasised that the project reflects its commitment to energy efficiency and long-term environmental sustainability.
