The New Patriotic Party embark on demonstration against Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

A mammoth crowd of protesters have hit the streets of Accra demanding a refund of what they claim as a "missing money" in the recent evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa.

According to data provided by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, 1964 Ghanaians were evacuated with each evacuee receiving GH¢5,000 for reintegration into the society and GH¢500 for transport.

Following the report, a Right to Information (RTI) request was made by the Minority in Parliament led by the former Lands and Natural Resources Minister and current Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, and the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh; both ranking members on the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Committee.

Their disocery revealed some discrepancies in the documents provided by the Foreign Affairs Ministry led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Minority claims over 16 million cedis is unaccounted for as the number of evacuees, to them, does not add up.

They also accused Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of failing to provide substantial records on three chartered flights that brought some of the evacuees, amounting to GH¢27,183,700, approximately US$2.25 million.

In view of this, the New Patriotic Party is demanding a refund of the monies and in so doing, the party has staged a major demonstration today to seemingly compel the Minister to account to the Ghanaian populace.

The demonstration has seen huge numbers of people clad in red and displaying placards to register their displeasure with the Minister.

The ongoing demonstration is dubbed "Yɛgye Yɛ Sika", to wit "we need our money".
