The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has ordered the deployment of additional security forces and armoured vehicles to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following a resurgence of violence in the area.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 26, by the Oti Regional Police Command in Dambai, the Police indicated that two armoured vehicles, together with personnel from the National Police Operations unit, were dispatched on Wednesday night to reinforce security.

According to the statement, the intervention has brought the situation in the Nkwanta South Municipality under control, restoring a level of calm.

Despite this, five people have been confirmed dead in connection with the attacks. The victims—three men and two women—were discovered at two different locations by a joint security team made up of the Police, Military, Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service.

Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the cause of the violence and to apprehend those responsible.

Residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities have been advised to remain peaceful and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to support the investigations.

The statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent John Nchor, also warned against the circulation of false information and any actions that could escalate tensions in the area.
