Independent parliamentary aspirant raise concerns about Katamanso Health Centre
An aspiring independent parliamentary candidate for the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Abraham Aidoo, has raised concerns over the condition of the Katamanso Health Centre, describing the situation as a threat to residents’ safety.
Mr Aidoo and his team joined the National Sanitation Day exercise by clearing the overgrown compound of the health facility, which he said had become so bushy that sheep and other livestock frequently entered the premises to graze.
According to him, the health centre serves a large population within the Kpone-Katamanso area, including communities stretching from Apollonia to Katamanso, yet its surroundings have been left in a condition that undermines healthcare delivery.
He said the overgrown nature of the facility had created an environment where animals could freely enter the compound, raising concerns about sanitation and security.
Mr Aidoo further expressed concern about emergency healthcare services at the facility, claiming that patients requiring urgent attention sometimes have to rely on taxis because the ambulance parked in front of the health centre is not functional.
“When it’s an emergency, the patient has to be taken by a taxi. This is not health provision; it is a security threat to the people of Kpone-Katamanso,” he said in an interview.
He questioned the adequacy of healthcare services available to residents given the size of the constituency and its growing population.
“For such a huge population with this kind of healthcare, it’s just so bad. The people of Katamanso deserve better healthcare,” Mr Aidoo said.
He called for urgent attention to the health facility, including improvements to its surroundings and emergency response capacity, to ensure that residents have access to safe and reliable healthcare services.
The sanitation exercise, according to the aspiring parliamentary candidate, was intended not only to clean the facility but also to draw attention to the challenges confronting residents who depend on it for healthcare.
