Kantanka’s final funeral rites rescheduled to July 30, 2026
The final funeral rites of the late spiritual leader of the Christo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, have been rescheduled from July 20 to Thursday, July 30, 2026.
The announcement was made by the family during a press conference, indicating that the decision was reached after consultations among the children, family elders, and the Aduana Kotoko Royal Family.
The burial service will take place at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, followed by a funeral service on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Independence Square in Accra.
A thanksgiving service is also expected to be held in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region as part of the final rites.
Speaking at the press briefing, Sarah Adwoa Safo, a daughter of the late Apostle, said the new date was agreed upon to ensure full participation of family members and associates across the globe.
She noted that the decision was taken in consultation with the wider Aduana Kotoko Royal Family, including members in Chad and Cameroon, to allow them adequate time to attend and pay their final respects.
According to her, the late Apostle had expressed a personal wish that he should not be accorded a state burial, and the family intends to honour that directive.
“As a statesman, it is only right to allow all members of the Aduana Kotoko Royal Family across the globe, especially those from Chad and Cameroon, to be fully represented.
That is why we have chosen July 30, 2026, to pay our last respects to the ‘African Star’,” she stated.
She further disclosed that the revised arrangements followed consultations with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The family has urged the public, followers of Christo Asafo, and well-wishers to take note of the new date as preparations continue for a befitting farewell to the revered spiritual leader.
