Legal counsel for former Finance Minister, Frank Davies, has confirmed that his client Ken Ofori-Atta has been granted bail and released from the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following court proceedings in the United States.

The update comes after his legal team verified that he is no longer in detention. Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, April 8, Mr Davies explained that Mr Ofori-Atta had earlier appeared before an immigration court, where a bond was secured to facilitate his release.

He noted, however, that the process had been slowed due to an outstanding extradition request. According to him, the presiding judge had instructed U.S. federal prosecutors to provide details of the request by February 19. But on February 18, the Department of Justice submitted only a brief filing that did not contain sufficient information for the case to proceed.

Mr Davies added that the matter had been adjourned, with the next hearing initially scheduled for April 27. In line with U.S. immigration procedures, the former minister has since been granted bail and released from custody.

Mr Ofori-Atta had been held since January 2026 over issues relating to his immigration status. His lawyers have confirmed that he has now reunited with his family after leaving detention.
