Kwabre East MCE unveils traffic relief measures for residents

Joseph Amankwah

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwabre East Municipal District, Joseph Amankwah, has announced plans to install traffic lights at two major junctions as part of efforts to ease congestion in the area.

The intervention will target the Fawade–Bampenase and Mamponteng–Dumanfou junctions, which have long been identified as traffic bottlenecks affecting mobility and daily economic activity within the municipality.

Speaking at his inaugural Assembly meeting on Friday, Mr. Amankwah acknowledged that poor road networks and persistent congestion remain key challenges confronting residents and businesses.

He assured stakeholders that the Assembly is committed to implementing sustainable solutions to improve traffic flow and enhance productivity.

The installation of traffic lights is expected to streamline vehicular movement and improve pedestrian safety across the affected areas.

In addition to the traffic measures, the MCE also unveiled plans to acquire land for the development of a spare parts hub within the municipality.

The proposed facility is intended to position Kwabre East as a strategic commercial centre, particularly for traders travelling from northern Ghana and other regions.

According to Mr. Amankwah, the initiative could help decongest Suame by redirecting some commercial activities to Kwabre East, while simultaneously boosting local revenue generation.

He noted that the establishment of the hub would not only support trade but also create employment opportunities and stimulate broader economic growth in the municipality.

The proposal forms part of a wider development agenda aimed at addressing infrastructure deficits and strengthening Kwabre East’s status as a key economic hub in the Ashanti Region.
