The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina Constituency, Francis-Xavier Kojo Sosu, has welcomed the recent United Nations (UN) resolution recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as a crime against humanity, describing it as a major step toward addressing historical injustices and elevating Africa’s voice on the global stage.

Speaking to the media after the adoption of the resolution at the UN, Mr Sosu said the development places a moral obligation on countries that played a role in the transatlantic slave trade to take responsibility for its lasting economic and social impact.

He noted that the resolution provides Africa with a stronger platform to demand accountability while positioning the continent as a credible partner in global investment and development discussions.

“This is a significant win for Africa. It gives us a powerful platform to push for fairness in global systems and to ensure that the historical injustices suffered by Africans are acknowledged and addressed,” he said.

Mr Sosu emphasised that while the resolution is a critical milestone, attention must now shift toward translating its intent into concrete actions and structural programmes that will benefit African countries.

He called on governments across the continent to work collaboratively and strategically engage international partners to ensure that commitments tied to the resolution result in tangible outcomes, including investment opportunities, equitable aid distribution, and long-term economic empowerment initiatives.

The resolution is expected to influence future global conversations on reparations, development financing, and international equity, with African leaders urged to capitalize on the momentum to drive meaningful and lasting change.
