The Minority in Parliament has announced its intention to petition the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to probe businessman Ibrahim Mahama and his firm, Engineers & Planners, over their role in the acquisition of the Damang Mine, as well as the President’s use of his brother’s private jet.

Speaking to the press in Parliament Ranking Member for the Committee on Lands and Natural Resources Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong expressed concern over what they believe are procedural lapses and possible constitutional violations in the selection of an investor for the mine.

They contended that the process was neither open nor equitable, raising questions about its integrity. According to the Minority, the outcome appeared to have been decided in advance, rather than emerging from a transparent and competitive bidding process.

“The Minority will not accept the government characterisation of this process as competitive. What we see is a winner being arranged and not selected.

“Under Article 287 (1) of the 1992 Constitution, any person may petition CHRAJ to investigate violations of chapter 24 and so the minority is formally considering a joint civil society organisations, professional bodies and concerned citizens on both the private jet and the Damang Mine process as two manifestations of the same constitutional beach.”
