The Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus in Parliament, Comfort Doyoe, has cautioned that men who challenge female aspirants in the 2028 general elections could be publicly called out and criticised.

Her statement follows increasing concern about Ghana’s poor standing in women’s political representation, as the country is currently ranked 149th out of 188 countries worldwide.

Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, March 25, Doyoe urged relevant stakeholders and authorities to take intentional measures to advance women’s empowerment and boost their involvement in governance.

She pointed to a recent report by the United Nations as troubling, stressing that Ghana continues to fall behind many nations in promoting female representation.

Doyoe further indicated that the Women’s Caucus plans to engage the Speaker of Parliament to identify strategies that will strengthen support for female lawmakers and enhance their prospects of retaining their seats.

“Mr Speaker, all men who will contest women in this Parliament in the next election, we will name and shame them because we need to protect them,” she said.

“Right Honourable Speaker, the global report which we brought from the UN is disheartening. If you look at where the blue line is, those are countries that have done better, and where the golden line is, those are countries that have not done anything at all about women,” she said.

“Mr Speaker, out of 188 countries, Ghana is 149, which means we have not done well at all when it comes to women,” she added.
