Police pickup carrying suspects and trotro collide at KNUST, several injured
Several people, including police officers, passengers, and suspects, sustained injuries after a police pickup collided with a commercial vehicle at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus in the Oforikrom Municipality.
The injured were rushed to the KNUST Hospital for treatment following the crash, which occurred at the traffic intersection leading toward Ayeduase.
No fatalities have been reported. According to eyewitnesses, the police vehicle with registration GP1035 was transporting approximately seven suspected cannabis smokers to a police station following an arrest operation.
The vehicle collided with a commercial minibus with registration AS 37 55-22 as both proceeded through the intersection.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the police pickup entered the junction at high speed with its siren activated, while the commercial vehicle proceeded on a green light, resulting in a violent impact.
"Several people in the police vehicle were injured, as well as passengers in the trotro," an eyewitness recounted. "By God's grace, no one died, but many were injured and transported to the Tech Hospital."
The incident triggered significant vehicular traffic across the KNUST campus, but police reinforcement teams subsequently cleared the damaged vehicles to restore normal traffic flow.
The police have commenced investigations into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
