The Plastic Manufacturers Association and the National Association of Sachet and Packaged Water Producers have agreed to keep sachet water prices unchanged after shelving plans for a price increase.

The decision follows a meeting with Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, where concerns over rising production costs were discussed.

Addressing the media after the engagement, the Minister explained that the intended rise in polymer prices has been put on hold due to signs of improvement in the economy.

She added that the current level of economic stability provides an opportunity for producers to manage costs internally instead of transferring the burden to consumers.

“Because the economy has been stable for a while we think that we have been cushioned so it is a good time for the industry to also cushion Ghanaians. They have agreed to do that so we continue to enjoy the stability that we have in the system. In any economy, there are gains and there are loses. Since we have enjoyed the gains for about 14 months, I am happy that they will cushion us for the next two months. We are hoping that things will come back to normal,” she said.
