South African authorities have identified the individuals behind the recent xenophobic attacks on Ghanaian nationals and have committed to taking firm legal action, according to Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Kofi Quashie.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, April 25, Mr. Quashie revealed that he was summoned by South African officials for a briefing on the security situation.

During the meeting, authorities provided assurances that the perpetrators of the violence are known to law enforcement and that the government will go to "great lengths" to hold them accountable.

This diplomatic engagement follows the circulation of viral videos showing the harassment of Ghanaian nationals by vigilante groups.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that the South African government has formally expressed regret over the incidents and pledged a comprehensive investigation.

Minister Ablakwa noted that Ghana has registered a strong condemnation of the attacks, emphasizing that the protection of the rights and dignity of its citizens abroad is a non-negotiable priority.

He further stated that ongoing discussions with South African counterparts have underscored the urgent need for swift intervention to prevent a recurrence of such hostilities.

The Government of Ghana remains in active contact with South African leadership to monitor the situation and ensure that the promised security measures are fully implemented to protect foreign nationals living in the country.
