The Ghana Police Service has arrested another TikTok user over alleged offensive and defamatory comments directed at President John Dramani Mahama and the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama.

The suspect, identified as 49-year old Rita Konadu, popularly known on TikTok as “Mamaone” or “the_onlymamaone1”, was arrested on July 22, 2026 at Juaben in the Ashanti Region by the Police Service’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET).

According to the authorities, Konadu allegedly posted a video on TikTok containing derogatory remarks about the President and the First Lady, leading to her arrest as part of ongoing efforts by the Police to address social media-related offences.

Her arrest comes amid growing attention on online conduct involving public figures following the recent case of TikToker Camila Alhassan, who was convicted and sentenced to a one-year term for offensive conduct towards President John Mahama and the First Lady.

The case involving Camila Alhassan sparked a national conversation about the limits of freedom of expression, responsible social media use and the need for citizens to exercise caution when making public comments online.

The Police have since intensified monitoring of social media platforms, warning users that freedom of speech comes with responsibilities and that individuals who publish content considered defamatory, threatening or offensive could face legal action.

With Rita Konadu’s arrest, authorities have once again highlighted their commitment to enforcing the laws governing online communication while urging the public to use social media responsibly.

However, some critics such as renowned lawyer Martin Kpebu have kicked against the rampant arrests likening it to an oppression of freedom of speech.
