COCOBOD anti-smuggling unit intercepts over 100 bags of cocoa from Côte d’Ivoire
The anti-smuggling task force of the Ghana Cocoa Board, in collaboration with security agencies, has arrested several suspects involved in the illegal transportation of cocoa beans into Ghana from Côte d’Ivoire.
According to preliminary reports, the operation led to the seizure of more than 100 bags of cocoa believed to have been smuggled across the border.
The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated enforcement exercise aimed at curbing cross-border cocoa smuggling.
Authorities say the crackdown forms part of intensified efforts to protect Ghana’s cocoa industry and prevent revenue losses associated with illicit trade.
Cocoa smuggling has long posed a challenge to the sector, undermining farmer incomes and distorting official production figures.
The arrested individuals are currently in custody assisting with investigations, while the seized cocoa has been secured by officials.
COCOBOD has reiterated its commitment to working closely with security agencies to clamp down on smuggling activities and safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s cocoa value chain.
