A driver from Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region  has recounted how he was allegedly defrauded of GHS30,000 by a self-styled spiritualist, popularly known as a “mallam,” in a case highlighted on a recent episode of Masem Nie on Accra-based CTV.

The victim, David Ofosu, said he was introduced to the mallam by a friend, Wofa Yaw, during a period of personal challenges involving his marriage and financial struggles.

According to Mr. Ofosu, the mallam, based in Shukura, a suburb of Accra convinced him that his vehicle troubles were linked to spiritual issues surrounding the original purchase of his KIA Rhino truck.

He claimed the mallam advised him to sell the vehicle and invest the proceeds into a ritual scheme referred to as “Sika Gari,” which was promised to yield massive financial returns.

Believing the claims, Mr. Ofosu sold his vehicle for GHS30,000.

He said he was subsequently instructed to send GHS10,000 for the purchase of materials required for the ritual, which he did.

He later handed over the remaining GHS20,000 after the mallam performed the ritual at his uncompleted house, expecting to receive a return of GHS6 billion.

Mr. Ofosu said the mallam then gave him a box said to contain fresh GHS10 notes, with instructions not to open it for three days.

However, upon opening the box, he discovered that the supposed money had turned into leaves.

Attempts to contact the mallam since then have reportedly been unsuccessful.

The incident adds to growing concerns over fraudulent spiritual schemes targeting vulnerable individuals seeking financial and personal solutions.
