GA/R: Police investigate policewoman shooting taxi driver to death in Tetegu
The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on Monday, January 19, 2026, in the Tetegu area near Weija, involving a policewoman and a taxi driver.
According to a statement from the service, preliminary investigations indicate that the policewoman allegedly shot the driver of a Hyundai i10 taxi following a confrontation.
The taxi driver was rushed to the Police Hospital, Cantonments, Accra, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The statement further noted that the policewoman was hit by a vehicle and sustained injuries to her head and both legs while attempting to leave the scene.
She is currently admitted to a hospital and receiving medical attention.
Police recovered a live 9mm round, a magazine, and an empty 9mm cartridge from the scene as exhibits.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the GPS has assured the public that further updates will be provided as they develop.
