Ghana Cybersecurity Authority cracks down on cybercrime in Sakumono and Volta Region
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) of Ghana, in collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional Command and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, conducted two major operations over the past weekend, resulting in the arrest of cybercriminals involved in SIMbox fraud, impersonation, and MoMo-related scams.
In the first operation, authorities dismantled a sophisticated SIMbox network operating across three locations in Sakumono. Three Nigerian nationals, along with a Ghanaian landlord who facilitated the operation, were apprehended and are now facing prosecution.
The second operation targeted a three-member syndicate in Vakpo, Volta Region, engaged in impersonation, sextortion, and Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud.
The group had reportedly impersonated the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations to deceive members of the public.
All individuals arrested in both operations have been processed for court and will face the full rigours of Ghanaian law.
The CSA has reiterated a stern warning to cybercriminals operating in Ghana: while the nation remains hospitable, those who choose to engage in cybercrime will be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent.
