O/R: IGP deploys armoured reinforcements to Nkwanta after deadly attacks claim 5 lives
The Ghana Police Service has deployed additional security personnel and armoured vehicles to Nkwanta in the Oti Region following renewed violent attacks in the area.
The reinforcement, ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, includes two armoured vehicles and officers from the National Police Operations unit. The deployment, carried out on Tuesday night, is aimed at restoring stability and preventing further escalation. Authorities say calm has since been restored.
In a related development, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Defence Intelligence, and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has recovered five bodies from two separate locations within the Nkwanta South Municipality. The deceased include three males and two females.
Security agencies have commenced investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the attacks and to identify those responsible.
Residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with authorities by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations. The Police also cautioned the public against the spread of misinformation and actions that could inflame tensions in the area.
