O/R: Joint security team arrests 6 over Nkwanta violence
A joint security operation has led to the arrest of six suspects in connection with the recent communal violence in Nkwanta in the Oti Region.
The arrests were carried out by a combined team of security personnel following heightened tensions in the area.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region, said the suspects were picked up through intelligence-led operations aimed at restoring calm and ensuring accountability for the disturbances.
The service indicated that two of the suspects were arrested on March 29, 2026, while four others were apprehended on March 31, 2026, as part of ongoing coordinated efforts by the security agencies.
All six suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with investigations.
Authorities say the arrests mark a significant step toward addressing the causes of the unrest and preventing further escalation.
Residents of Nkwanta and surrounding communities have been urged to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies. The public has also been encouraged to volunteer credible information that may aid ongoing investigations.
The Police further cautioned against the spread of misinformation and any actions that could inflame tensions, stressing the importance of responsible communication during this period.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to maintaining peace and security in the region.
