Police arrest three suspected gang leaders in Adabraka gold robbery
The Inspector-General of Police’s Special Operations Unit (SOA) has arrested three suspected gang leaders believed to be behind the recent Adabraka gold robbery in the Greater Accra Region, following months of sustained surveillance and intelligence-led operations.
The arrests were carried out on Tuesday afternoon in the Ashaiman District after what police described as meticulous intelligence gathering, monitoring and targeted tactical action aimed at dismantling the criminal network responsible for the violent robbery.
The suspects have been identified as Nashiru Abubakari, also known as “Soldier,” Fatao Mohammed, popularly called “Motorway,” and a third suspect known by the alias “50Cent.”
Police sources say the operation marks a significant breakthrough in investigations into the robbery, which sparked public concern due to its violent nature and the high value of items involved.
Investigations are currently ongoing to trace and apprehend other accomplices linked to the crime, while efforts are also underway to recover exhibits believed to be connected to the robbery.
The suspects are presently in police custody and are expected to be processed for court in accordance with the law.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to combating organised crime and ensuring public safety across the country.
It has also urged members of the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
