The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has held a high-level consultative meeting with former Education Minister, Christine Amoako-Nuamah, as part of efforts to advance reforms in Ghana’s tertiary education sector.

The engagement forms part of broader consultations directed by President John Dramani Mahama to guide the establishment of a committee tasked with creating new public universities and expanding access to quality higher education.

Discussions focused on policy direction, institutional growth, and sustainable frameworks to support the planned expansion of the sector.

A key highlight of the meeting was the proposed development of Kenyasi No. 2 as a second campus of the University of Mines and Technology.

The new campus is expected to offer specialised programmes in mining, agribusiness, and entrepreneurship, aligning with Ghana’s broader industrialisation and economic transformation agenda.

Mr. Iddrisu emphasised that the initiative is part of a wider strategy to decentralise higher education, promote innovation, and equip young people with relevant skills for national development.

The meeting underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive and forward-looking education reforms, leveraging expertise and experience to build a resilient and globally competitive tertiary education system.
