Ghana Scholarship Authority conducts competitive exam for Hungarian scholarship applicants
The Ghana Scholarship Authority has conducted a nationwide competitive examination for prospective beneficiaries of the Hungarian Stipendium scholarship programme, marking what officials describe as a renewed commitment to transparency and merit-based selection.
The exercise, held under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama, forms part of efforts to reform the scholarship system and ensure equal access to government-sponsored opportunities.
The Hungarian Stipendium, a scholarship scheme offered by the Government of Hungary, provides funding for undergraduate, Master’s and PhD studies.
This year’s selection process attracted 3,810 candidates from across the country, who sat for the high-level competitive examination.
The Authority collaborated with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Civil Service Training Centre to administer the examination.
WAEC will also serve as the independent marking agency to ensure credibility and integrity in the evaluation process.
The Director-General of the Ghana Scholarship Authority, Mr Alex Asafo Agyei, who supervised the exercise, said the initiative is aimed at selecting qualified applicants strictly on merit.
He assured candidates that scholarship awards would be based purely on competence and performance.
The competitive examination is part of broader reforms intended to restore public confidence in the administration of government scholarships, with authorities emphasising fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for all deserving Ghanaians.
Candidates are expected to receive their results in due course, he concluded.
