MP reaffirms commitment to teacher welfare and digital skills dev't in Awutu Senya West
The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West in the Central Region, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, has reiterated her commitment to improving teacher accommodation and motivation across the constituency as part of efforts to strengthen education delivery.
Speaking at a capacity-building workshop organised in collaboration with the International Community for Learning and Social Spectrum, the MP—who also serves as Deputy Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources—highlighted the importance of investing in both human capital and educational infrastructure.
The training programme focused on equipping teachers with skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern technology to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.
According to her, such initiatives are essential in preparing educators to adapt to the demands of a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
However, she stressed that skills training must be complemented by improved working conditions.
“While we are equipping our teachers with modern skills, it is equally important to provide the right environment to apply this knowledge,” she said.
“That includes improving school infrastructure, renovating existing facilities, and ensuring adequate accommodation for teachers.”
She further disclosed plans to complete abandoned teacher bungalow projects within the constituency, noting that access to decent housing plays a critical role in teacher retention and overall job satisfaction.
Also addressing participants, the Awutu Senya West District Chief Executive(DCE), Mr Kalala Nyame Eghan, encouraged teachers to embrace technological advancements, particularly Artificial Intelligence, to enhance their effectiveness in the classroom.
“We are in a new era where technology is transforming every sector, including education.
I encourage all teachers to take advantage of these tools to improve their work and impact students positively,” he stated.
Educational Psychologist and Learning Strategist, Marian Benewaa Babah-Alargi, also urged teachers to adopt inclusive practices, cautioning against discrimination in the classroom.
She emphasised that every child possesses unique abilities that must be nurtured.
The workshop forms part of broader efforts to improve education standards in the constituency through a combination of teacher empowerment and infrastructure development.
