Ashaiman targets silent killers as 50,000 residents set for mass health screening drive
More than 50,000 residents in the Ashaiman Municipality are expected to benefit from a large-scale health screening exercise aimed at improving public health and reducing preventable deaths, particularly among the youth.
The initiative, dubbed the “Ashaiman Rising in Good Health Campaign,” is a collaborative effort between New Crystal Hospital, the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, and the Ashaiman Health Directorate.
The exercise, which is scheduled to run from now until November, will be rolled out across various communities within the municipality. Residents will be screened for non-communicable diseases including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and kidney-related conditions.
During the official launch of the initiative Chief Executive Officer of New Crystal Health Services, Dr. Wisdom Amegbletor, indicated that beneficiaries diagnosed during the screening will receive free medication under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He added that individuals requiring specialised care, particularly for kidney conditions, will be referred to Mahatma Care for further management.
Dr Amegbletor urged residents to take advantage of the exercise, stressing that early detection remains key in preventing life-threatening complications.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Ashaiman, Freeman Tsekpo, underscored the importance of the initiative, noting that it forms part of efforts to address the growing incidence of sudden and premature deaths in the area.
Also lending his voice, the Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Annan Adjor, called on residents to adopt healthier lifestyles, including mindful eating habits and regular medical check-ups, to help curb avoidable deaths.
