McDan Foundation and RIDNE give food, health care to 7,000 women in La
The 2026 Widows Support Project delivered rice, gari, medical checks, and medications.
About 7,000 widows and vulnerable women received food and free health care on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the McDan La Town Park.
The event was the 2026 edition of the McDan Widows Support Project. It was run by the McDan Foundation and the RIDNE Food Consortium, a Ukrainian group. Beneficiaries came from La and nearby communities.
Each woman received rice, gari, pasta, drinks, water, and biscuits.
The Viva Health Medical Foundation provided free health screenings. These included eye exams, blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, bone and joint assessments, hearing tests, BMI and nutrition checks, and mental wellness consultations. Prescribed drugs were given at no cost.
The total cost of the outreach was about 1 million Ghana cedis.
Dr Daniel McKorley, founder of the McDan Group, spoke at the event. He said the partnership with RIDNE is strong and growing. He added that the foundation plans to expand the project to other African countries.
Michael Penrose, the food advisor, praised Dr McKorley’s commitment to communities. He called the project a good example of Africa and international partners working together.
Several women at the La Town Park said they look forward to the event every year. They said it brings not just food and medicine, but also a sense of being seen and cared for.
Staff from all McDan Group companies helped coordinate the distribution. Organisers said the partnership with RIDNE will continue, and the Widows Support Project will keep growing.
