The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Eduamoah Okyere, has called on workers in the region to change their attitude towards illegal mining and deforestation, citing their environmental impact.

He made the remarks at the 2026 May Day celebration held at Ajumako in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District.

Mr Okyere criticised what he described as negative attitudes among some workers and urged an end to illegal tree-felling practices that harm the environment. He also called for improved sanitation practices and commended government for scrapping taxes such as the E-levy.

He further encouraged workers to adopt a positive approach to their duties.

Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation, Galahad Alex Andoh, who represented Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson, urged workers to be patient with the government.

He said efforts are underway to address teachers’ accommodation challenges through the construction of classroom blocks and teachers’ bungalows nationwide, adding that more housing projects are planned.

Mr Andoh also called for salary increases in the next budget and urged the public to have confidence in the government.

The District Chief Executive for Ajumako Enyan Essiam District, Andrews Kojo Duodu, also urged workers to remain committed to their duties, assuring them that their concerns would be addressed.
