The Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana has funded lifesaving open-heart surgeries for two children born with congenital heart disorders, marking a significant milestone in its 15-year mission.

The formal presentation occurred at the Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where the procedures are being performed.

One child has already successfully completed surgery and is in recovery, while the second is scheduled for the operation in the coming weeks.

The funding for these procedures was a result of several high-profile charitable efforts.

Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Berenice Owen-Jones, helped mobilise resources through the Melbourne Cup charity fundraiser. Her involvement was driven by a personal connection to the cause as a mother of a child who previously required heart surgery.

Further support was generated through the Foundation’s recent Health Walk, which saw participation from over 100 students and staff from Tema International School, SOS Hermann Gmeiner College, and Al-Rayan International School.

These combined efforts provided the necessary financial backing to cover the high costs of the complex cardiac procedures.

Since its inception 15 years ago, The Children’s Heart Foundation Ghana has supported more than 250 children with critical surgeries.

Despite this success, the organisation notes that the need remains high, with over 50 children currently on the waiting list for similar lifesaving interventions.

The Foundation continues to call on the public and corporate entities to support its mission of providing medical care to children with heart conditions.
