Stakeholders at the Town Hall meeting

The Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and with support from World Vision Ghana, has held a town hall meeting in the Upper East Region to strengthen efforts toward eliminating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).

The meeting forms part of Ghana’s commitment to the World Health Organisation 2030 Roadmap, which aims to eradicate and control NTDs globally through coordinated and community-driven approaches.

At the meeting, stakeholders reviewed progress made through ongoing interventions, while highlighting areas that require renewed attention.

Participants stressed the importance of stronger collaboration among health institutions, improved integration of NTD programmes into primary healthcare, and increased community-level engagement.

Diseases such as leprosy and yaws were identified as persistent public health concerns that require sustained and targeted action.

Discussions also centred on the need to deepen local ownership of NTD programmes, ensuring that communities play an active role in prevention, detection, and treatment efforts.

Stakeholders emphasised that achieving elimination targets by 2030 will depend on sustained commitment from government and partners, reliable funding, and continuous public education.

Health officials noted that while progress has been made, accelerating efforts through coordinated strategies and grassroots participation will be critical to meeting the WHO’s elimination goals.

The town hall meeting is expected to inform future policy direction and strengthen partnerships aimed at reducing the burden of neglected tropical diseases across Ghana.
