The Director of Agribusiness Development at the Presidency, Dr Peter Boamah Otokunor, has paid a working visit to the Badu Grain Storage site in the Tain District of the Bono Region to assess its current condition and operational capacity.

The facility, which currently hosts a warehouse of the National Food Buffer Stock Company, was constructed in the 1980s and provides essential services including grain cleaning, drying, and storage for smallholder farmers within the district and surrounding communities.

During the visit, it was observed that the facility requires significant maintenance and upgrades to improve efficiency and better serve farmers.

Dr Otokunor noted that limited grain processing and storage infrastructure remains a major challenge affecting both smallholder and large-scale farmers across the country, often leading to post-harvest losses and marketing difficulties.

According  to him, the visit was part of broader efforts by the government under President John Dramani Mahama to strengthen Ghana’s food buffer systems.

The initiative aims to introduce modern, digitally controlled storage facilities nationwide to streamline the grain supply chain and expand market opportunities for farmers.

He addmitted that the move is expected to enhance food security, reduce wastage, and support the growth of the agricultural sector.
