Concerns over electoral integrity have resurfaced following allegations of vote-buying in the Ayawaso East constituency, with policy analyst Mussa Dankwah describing the development as one of the “saddest moments” in Ghana’s democratic history.

His remarks come in the wake of viral videos circulating on social media, which appear to show some voters allegedly receiving items in exchange for their votes during ongoing electoral processes in the area.

Speaking on The Citizen Show hosted by Kwabena Bobie Ansah on Accra 100.5 FM, Mr. Dankwah expressed deep concern over the implications of such practices on Ghana’s democratic credibility.

“What happened at Ayawaso East will go down in Ghana’s political history as one of the saddest moments in our democracy,” he stated, warning that incidents of vote-buying undermine public trust in elections and weaken democratic institutions.

The alleged incidents have sparked public debate, with many calling for swift investigations and stricter enforcement of electoral laws to curb malpractice.

Political observers argue that failure to address such issues decisively could erode confidence in the country’s electoral system.
