Bawumia urges NPP Minority to position party for 2028 elections
Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament to project itself as a government-in-waiting ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a pre-Parliament meeting in Accra on Wednesday, May 20, ahead of the resumption of the Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament, Dr Bawumia said the party had moved beyond post-election reflection following its 2024 defeat.
“We have finished the period of introspection. We must now position ourselves credibly as a party preparing to govern from January 7, 2029,” he said.
According to him, the actions and conduct of NPP MPs in Parliament and in their constituencies would influence public confidence in the party’s readiness to return to power.
He also urged members of the caucus to remain united and avoid internal divisions as the party rebuilds ahead of the next election.
