Deputy Minority Chief Whip demands briefing on president’s use of private jet and regional airport promise
The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called on Parliament to invite the Minister for Foreign Affairs to brief the House over the alleged use of a private jet linked to the President’s brother for official travel.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during discussions on the business statement, Shaib urged the House to demand clarity on reports that the aircraft being used by the President belongs to his brother.
According to him, the Minister must appear before the House to confirm whether the private jet in question is indeed owned by the President’s brother and to disclose the cost to the state when the aircraft is used for official duties.
Shaib stressed that Parliament has a responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability in matters involving public expenditure and the use of private assets for state functions.
In addition to the issue of the aircraft, the Deputy Minority Chief Whip also asked the Foreign Affairs Minister to brief the House on earlier assurances that the government would construct airports across all regions in Ghana.
He said the Minister had previously made commitments regarding plans to build airports in each of the country’s regions and must now provide an update on the status of that pledge.
Shaib maintained that Parliament must be kept informed about such major policy commitments and projects, particularly where they have implications for national development and public resources.
He, therefore, urged the leadership of the House to ensure the Minister appears before Parliament to provide full details and respond to questions from Members.
